Benoit Lienart
After a graduate degree in architecture from the Beaux Arts in Paris, Benoit spent the next several years working on theater decor in the Middle East. Returning to Paris he moved into industrial design where his competence in conceptual development, design and process were firmly established.
In 2007 Benoit created Cerekapery, an innovation laboratory based in Paris. The philosophy behind Cerekapery is the belief that the creative process must work hand in hand with design, purpose and innovation. Cerekapery’s approach to Sweetch18 illustrates this perfectly. The prestigious L’Observeur du Design chose Sweetch 18 as part of its selection for innovative new design for 2011.
Benoit cites several designers work who inspire his own such as Giancarlo Piretti and his chair Plia, Georges Nakashima’s Conoid Bench, Gerrit Rietveld’s Red/Blue chair, the Sticley brother’s Prairie Cube chairs as well as the timeless Adirondack chair.
Above all, for Benoit and Cerekapery, the importance of innovation, not for its own sake but rather to create a clearer purpose to an object, is at the heart of their work.
