Direct from Kauai, Hawaii, these graphic tables are hand made from recycled surfboards and carry with them the history of the big waves. Architect, designer and surfer Lawrence O' Toole gives new life to the boards as bold, modernist side tables.
Not as easy to transform as you may imagine " I collect old boards from the landfill transfer station on the north shore of Kauai. Next, I choose the most suitable boards to recycle and bring them to the surfboard shaper's factory on the west side of Kauai. The shaper peels back the existing fiberglass so we now have just a raw piece of foam that can be reshaped to our specifications. The new top is shaped using various saws, planers and hand sanding. Shaping is a true art and it takes years to become an expert craftsman. The finished foam shape is then recolored and fiberglassed so that the piece is as good as new while still maintaining the essence of its past "
Presented in smooth glossy colors; the O Tables are sturdy, functional side tables. Inspired by mid-century Scandinavian furnishings, the bent round stainless steel bases are made of the highest quality stainless steel, handcrafted in the USA. O Tables deliver the tactile experience of the surfboard, while blurring the boundaries between craft, design and art.
